This unit is designed to help you develop enterprising attitudes and prepare for possible self employment.
You'll learn to do this by:
- finding out about self employment
- developing your own business idea
- getting to understand the steps you need to take to start a business, keep it going and make it grow in its first year
You’ll learn to do this by being involved in a self employment related project. You may be working on this project on your own or as part of a team.
Your tutor will support and guide you all the way. So that you get the most out of the project it should:
- suit your skills, personal qualities and interests
- be related to your future career plans

Knowledge and understanding of self employment
For this outcome you will learn about what's involved in working for yourself and be able to:
- identify and describe three skills, three qualities and two attributes required for self-employment
- identify and describe three advantages and three disadvantages of self-employment.
