Working for Yourself

This unit is designed to help you to prepare for self employment as a possible career option and enable you to develop enterprising attitudes.

You’ll learn to do this by:

  • Identifying and describing the implications of self-employment
  • Investigating an agreed business idea
  • Investigating sources of finance and types of assistance available for self-employment
  • Explaining marketing and identifying a suitable strategy for an agreed business idea.

You'll learn to do this by being involved in a self employment related project. You may be working on your own or as part of a team.

Your can refer to your tutor for advice at any stage in your project, but you are expected to work with the minimum of support.

So that you get the most out of your project, it should:

  • suit your skills, personal qualities and interest
  • be related to your future career plans

You will:

  • identify and describe advantages and disadvantages of self-employment
